1. Attend a Sunday rehearsal in September and submit the blue Choir Information Form (below).
2. Meet the directors and complete a range check.
3. Sing in the rehearsal with other singers in your range.
4. Meet with the directors at the end of the rehearsal to hear if accepted.

Rehearsals are planned for two locations:

1. Oakland Temple Hill; 
2. A location to be confirmed in the Sunnyvale-San Jose-Menlo Park area. 

The Oakland rehearsals are located at the Ward Chapel on Temple Hill, next to the Oakland Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 4780 Lincoln Ave., Oakland, CA 94602 (the big white glowing building on the hill in Oakland).

Rehearsals are located in Oakland and San Jose for most weeks, Sept 13 - Oct 25.

The Temple Hill Choir has sung concerts around the San Francisco Bay Area since

1999. All singers in the Choir are volunteers and all concerts, are presented to all audiences as a gift to the community — at no charge. The Choir members love to sing, especially music about Christmas, Easter, and other special times of the year. The Temple Hill Choir has sung over 300 concerts since it began, sharing almost 500 different songs over that time. Works performed include songs and oratorios by Dan Forrest, Mack Wilberg, John Rutter, Rob Gardner, Alan Sylvestri, Mark Hayes, Craig Courtney, Lex de Azevedo, Alan Chipman, Mark Lowry, Michael McLean, among others.

The Temple Hill Choir typically performs with 35 to 50 singers, except at Easter when

they add other volunteer singers including youth to perform Lamb of God with between 75 and 250 singers, depending on the venue. The Choir sings with members of the Temple Hill Symphony Orchestra accompanying them. They also have small a cappella ensembles and children or youth choirs participate from time to time. Many of the Choir members perform as soloists when needed for any concerts. Indeed, the Lamb of God oratorio requires 13 vocal soloists and 2 narrators, all of whom are selected from the Choir.

The Choir has become best known in the Bay Area for presenting Rob Gardner’s Lamb of God oratorio 60+ times during the past 15 years for audiences totaling over 36,000 people. They have performed Lamb of God at 10 different venues including St. Mary’s Cathedral in San Francisco, the Oakland Temple Hill Auditorium and Christ the Light Cathedral in Oakland, St. Joseph’s Basilica Cathedral in San Jose, at the Mission Church on the campus of Santa Clara University, and the Memorial Church at Stanford University.

The Choir has sung the Magic of Christmas Concert for 27 years to open the annual

Christmas Lighting on Temple Hill in Oakland with audiences averaging 1,200 each

Christmas. This concert is fully staged with Christmas trees, lights, and sets each year. It is open to the entire community for free each year. This year, Magic of Christmas will be presented on Saturday, Nov 28. Free tickets will be available through TempleHill.org in October.

Because the Choir members live throughout the Bay Area, we do concerts all over.

Concerts the past two years have included concerts in Suisun City, Fairfield, Oroville,

Oakland, Sunnyvale, San Jose, Morgan Hill, and Stanford. This year’s Christmas

concerts will include Oakland, Morgan Hill, San Jose, Menlo Park, and San Rafael. The

Choir has sung at three universities, six Catholic cathedrals and parish churches, parks, over twenty LDS stake centers, on the USS Hornet for Veterans Day, in a cemetery in Antioch for Memorial Day, and of course, at the Temple Hill Auditorium in Oakland.

The Temple Hill Choir has been directed by Alan Chipman for its 28 seasons of

concerts. He is assisted by current Associate Directors, Jennifer Brown, Amy Strong,

and Jarom Nelson. The Choir operates as a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization. No one in the leadership of the Choir or in the Choir itself receives monetary compensation, but has always operated as unpaid volunteers.
